Butler County legislators compete with local
students in Stock Market Game challenge
March 23, 2007 – Three Butler County legislators recently participated with area students in the Stock Market Game Legislative Challenge. The statewide competition, facilitated by EconomicsPennsylvania, involves teams of students challenging their local legislators to determine who can amass the largest stock portfolio. Locally, Senator Mary Jo White and State Reps Jane Orie and Rep. Jeff Pyle participated with students from Knoch High School, Butler Catholic High School, and Kittanning Junior High, respectively.
The legislative challenge activity was part of the Spring Stock Market Game program, sponsored in Butler County by the NexTier Bank Center for Economic Education. Currently, 130 teams of students participate in the Spring Stock Market game in Butler and Armstrong Counties from the following school districts: Seneca Valley, Butler, South Butler, Butler Catholic, Mars Area, Armstrong, and Freeport. The game is a 10-week simulation that offers players the opportunity to invest a hypothetical $100,000 in stock chosen from the American, New York and NASDAQ markets. It culminates in a May 10 Banquet at the Conley Resort.
