NexTier erases ATM fees for customers, offering customers free access to ATMs worldwide
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – June 5, 2006 -- In keeping with its promise to experience the next level in banking, NexTier Bank is providing a new level of convenience to many of its customers. Effective Monday, June 5, select checking customers can “kiss ATM fees goodbye,” as NexTier becomes the first bank in western Pennsylvania to offer absolutely free ATMs (automated teller machine) transactions as a checking program benefit. “This means that our customers can choose a checking program with a benefit that will allow them to go to any ATM, anywhere in the world, to withdraw money from an ATM without paying a ‘foreign’ ATM fee, a charge that banks pass on to non-customers using their ATMs,” said Patricia Perhacs, senior vice president of marketing for NexTier. “In the western Pennsylvania area, some banks charge as much as $2 per ATM transaction to non-customers. We know that people hate paying a fee to get their money, so we knew this would be something our customers would really value. And it seems no matter where you bank, or how many ATMS your bank offers, there will be times when you need to use another bank’s ATM.”
NexTier is a member of the Freedom Alliance ATM network, which offers approximately 580 ATMs throughout the region.
“Last year, when we re-branded the bank to NexTier, we promised to take our products and services to the next level, and we have. We began with gourmet coffee and coin counters, alerts and ID Fraud coverage and now we are thrilled to offer something unique and very valuable to customers, like ‘Absolutely Free ATMs,’” stated Margaret Irvine Weir, NexTier president. “We think our customers will be delighted.”
NexTier is automatically reimbursing the foreign ATM fee incurred and debited to a participant’s account by other banks/ATM providers by crediting the checking account in 1-2 business days, dependant upon the time of transaction.
“The NexTier ‘Absolutely Free ATM’ benefit feature applies to many checking programs, including NexTier Gold Plus, NexTier@WORK Executive, Preferred and Business Checking accounts. This is just one of the many benefits customers in these checking programs receive,” said Patricia Perhacs.
